What Tire & Rim Pays

Coverage when the road bites back.

Potholes, nails, and road debris can damage a tire or bend a rim in an instant — and standard auto insurance typically doesn’t cover it. Your Optiom Tire & Rim policy is designed to handle those out-of-pocket costs so a road hazard doesn’t turn into an unplanned expense.

Tire & Rim claims are handled directly by Optiom, subject to your policy terms and coverage limits. If a covered tire can’t be repaired to safety standards, it’s replaced with a tire of like kind and quality. If a covered rim can’t be repaired to industry standards, it’s replaced with a reconditioned, used, or new rim of like kind and quality.

  • Tire repair or replacement — when a covered tire is damaged by a road hazard and can’t be safely repaired

  • Rim repair or replacement — when a covered rim is damaged by a road hazard and no longer functions as intended

  • Towing & incidentals — emergency towing to the nearest repair facility if you’re 200km or more from home, plus hotel and meal reimbursement up to $200 per claim

Coverage Limits
Limited Tire Coverage$600 / tire
Limited Rim Coverage$1,500 / rim

Sanctioned figures from Optiom Tire & Rim brochure. All amounts include taxes. Term maximums: 3-year $5,000 / 4-year $6,000 / 5-year $7,000.

Before You File

Documents you’ll need.

Tire & Rim claims share the same baseline requirements as any Optiom claim, plus documentation from the repair facility. Gather these before you call and we’ll typically process your file within 3–5 business days once it’s complete.

Benefits Request Form

Your signed form listing your Optiom policy number, date and type of loss, described vehicle, and contact details. We’ll email this to you when we open your file.

Repair Invoice or Estimate

An invoice or written estimate from the repair facility showing the date of service, the facility’s name and address, and an itemized breakdown of the tire or rim repair or replacement costs.

Damage Documentation

Clear photos of the damaged tire or rim, ideally taken before repair. If your claim includes emergency towing 200km or more from home, add your tow invoice and any hotel or meal receipts (up to $200 per claim).

Vehicle & Banking Details

Your VIN and odometer reading at time of loss, plus a void cheque or PAD form so we can send your payout by EFT wherever possible.

Your Optiom Tire & Rim policy is designed to respond to road-hazard damage — the kind caused by potholes, nails, glass, and other debris you can hit while driving. If a covered tire can’t be safely repaired to Transport Canada standards, it’s replaced with a tire of like kind and quality. If a covered rim is damaged by a road hazard and can’t be repaired to industry standards, it’s replaced with a reconditioned, used, or new rim of like kind and quality. Coverage limits, exclusions, and eligibility conditions are set out in your policy wording.
Flat tire repairs from a road hazard are covered up to $80 including taxes. Replacement only applies when the tire can’t be safely repaired to Transport Canada standards — in that case only the damaged tire is replaced with one of like kind and quality, up to the Limited Tire Coverage of $600 per tire including taxes. Manufacturer tire-matching requirements are not covered.
Yes, provided the winter tire and rim set is indicated on your Policy Application or Declaration. Your winter tires must be no more than five years old as of your policy Effective Date and must have usable tread at the time of claim. Winter rims must meet the manufacturer’s fitment specifications.
Towing coverage applies when your vehicle experiences a flat tire caused by a road hazard 200 km or more from your address. Optiom will cover emergency towing to the nearest repair facility of your choice, plus hotel and meal expenses (excluding alcohol) up to $200 per claim. Coverage is limited to a maximum of three claims per policy.
To make sure you don’t miss out on any of your benefits, we recommend contacting us as soon as possible once damage to your vehicle occurs. Getting your file open early gives us the most flexibility to walk you through your coverage and confirm what documentation to send in.
Under the Limitations Act, you have up to two years from the date of loss to report your claim, submit your paperwork, and settle. We strongly recommend filing as soon as possible after the damage occurs — the sooner your file is complete, the sooner your claim can be reviewed and paid out.
A quick safety note
Optiom will never ask you to pay a fee to process your claim. If someone claiming to be from Optiom requests payment to release your benefit, hang up and call us directly at 1-844-427-7587.
